Negotiating is the key to successful business when you can make things work for you!

When you realise that literally everything in your world is in your power – things change. So to truly step into your power you need to learn the art of negotiating like a boss!

I think I learnt from my mum early on, how to snag a great deal ;) And that has followed me into business which is something I am quite grateful for. I have been a damn good arguer from a young old age, I have honed my skills but negotiating is so much more than just arguing.

Negotiation is NOT about how to scam someone else to get what you want or arguing over an outcome – when you learn to create a deal and negotiate like a boss everyone wins.

There is so much power in this especially because I know you’re a powerhouse CEO doing BIG things, you’ll need to learn this.

Because every day we are met with situations that are actually negotiations – deciding what to have for dinner with your partner, buying a house or car or anything really, negotiating business deals, partnerships, payments, pricing. You are negotiating every damn day, whether you know it or not, you might as well get damn good at it.

So in this episode, I want to share with you some of my really fun negotiations stories and my five top tips for negotiating like a boss to get anyone to say as a hell ‘Yes’!

1. Everything is negotiable!

I hear this too often when people think they "can't" negotiate or discuss something... I want you to know there are absolutely no rules in life or business so you may as well try! The key is to try...

They could still say no, but at least you try, because what if they say yes!?!

The worst they can do is say no… and even when people say no, understanding why not may mean there is actually a solution.

Be willing to ask for what you want – I am always the person who asks for what I want and you’ll be surprised at how many people actually say YES.

2. Decide what YOU want out of it!

Think about what you truly want and need. Often we put others needs before ours, or worry what someone may think if we go in too hard, or don't want to embarass ourselves or hurt their feelings... this is all things we make up in our heads!

So the number 1 thing you need to do before any negotiation discussion is to decide what you are aiming to get out of it, FIRST.

3. Let them tell you what they want first

The key is to listen to keywords they use, things they truly want, and maybe some things that may not be as important. Ask them lots of questions, about why, what, when, etc.

They will tell you everything you need to use in your argument or proposal. Negotiators are detectives. They ask probing questions and then shut up. The other negotiator will tell you everything you need to know – all you have to do is listen.

If you really want to create a long term relationship and a deal you both value – you need to listen.

4. Aim for the stars!

Start high, add some, then go into negotiate with that! Never start with what you want, always aim higher so there is room to compromise or you may even end up with more than what you wanted.

Don’t go in too high, that it makes it a bad deal for them, always ensure they are happy with the agreement in the end otherwise they may pull out of the deal or not want to work with you again later.

5. You are allowed to walk away if it is not going to work for you

Keep your power. Don’t hand it away because you don’t want to waste peoples time or feel awkward. Even if you’ve been chatting for weeks or months then you are allowed to walk away, you don’t have to come to an agreement since you feel obliged.
